From its beginnings in April 2008, Aspens has grown to manage over 300 locations across the UK.
Our Large regional team shares a common purpose – to ensure that we place people at the heart of everything we do – our catering teams in our schools and academies, our clients and our customers. Great food begins with great people, cooking fresh food using quality ingredients.
Unusually in our industry, we recognise that “one size does not fit all”. Our clients are valued members of Aspens family and our approach is as diverse as our client portfolio. One commonality exists, though: Quality. Our founding principles are:
- Great tasting food, prepared using local ingredients
- The belief that “one size does not fit all”
- People before Profit
These principles are not just words, they are at the heart of everything that we do.
At the heart of what we do is our love for pleasing our customers with our great tasting, healthy food and our menus are guided by the feedback we receive from our customers. All of our dishes are supported by recipes and our teams are trained so that the dishes are cooked well, they taste great and look their best on our counters.
We purchase our food responsibly, through a transparent process and are proud that we buy from British farmers and producers. Buying British enables us to invest in local communities, reduce our food miles and get a great range of seasonal produce to incorporate into our menus for our customers to enjoy.
We have been awarded the “Food for Life” Gold Catering Mark from the Soil Association for our menus and we have been accreditations from the British Hen Welfare Trust and Compassion in World Farming for our use of free-range eggs. This means that our chickens are allowed to roam free making them happier hens!
We buy Red Tractor assured meat and poultry, sourced from British suppliers who are regularly inspected to ensure the highest standards of production and our milk is from dairies that are certified Grade A from the British Retail Consortium. We buy fish that is Marine Stewardship Council certified to help support the British fishing industry and the sustainability of our fish stocks.
Working with students to promote healthy eating has always been a part of our role as caterers in any school we provide a service to, but we don’t just stop there. We add value to each and every school we are part of. Whether by going that extra mile with our catering service, the work we do with our Events Team or the smaller projects we support. Working with students is something we actively seek out and enjoy.
Our events Team demonstrates that catering is not just about cooking – it involves a lot of transferable skills. We work with our schools to help give young people the skills they need for a future career, but also to teach them a basic knowledge around food for their journey for life.
On a smaller scale, we work with school councils and groups of students on projects such as marketing & promotions, food technology, gardening clubs and enterprise projects where the students actively sell and promote their produce to us. If you need support in a learning project, we are confident we have someone in our team that can help.
We also help you as a school to raise your own profile in your local communities. We support you on parent evenings, open events as well as providing hospitality for any governing bodies or VIP visits you may have.
We believe we are an integral part of the whole school experience and so do our clients.
