CHRISTOPHER WHITEHEAD

LANGUAGE COLLEGE AND SIXTH FORM

WELCOME TO CWLC SIXTH FORM!

THOMAS POINTER | SIXTH FORM STUDENT

BTEC Sport was an easy choice to make as I really enjoyed studying CNAT Sport Science lower down in the school. The range of modules appealed to me because I knew it would broaden my knowledge in a subject that I really enjoy and Unit 3 was especially useful, as it allowed me to explore the variety of job opportunities within the sports industry and helped me to identify some careers that I might be interested in. I think that the mixture of exams and coursework is really beneficial as it means that people who struggle with exams can still bank a lot of marks from the coursework assessed units and this element of the course is also more similar to the assessment found on a university degree. After sixth form, I am looking to study a degree in psychology or sport psychology and then progress to postgraduate level.

WHY CHOOSE LEVEL 3 BTEC EXTENDED CERTIFICATE IN SPORT?

The global sporting industry grew by 41% in 2022 to an astonishing $501.43 billion. Few other sectors are expected to see global growth such as the sporting industry in 2023.

BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport is a vocational course that teaches students the knowledge required to pursue a career in sport. Students will develop skills ranging from:

  • Applied Anatomy and Physiology
  • Specialised Fitness Training
  • Professional Development in the Sports Industry
  • Fitness Testing Principles

This is a sport science-based course that will guide learners into sport related occupations, whist developing extensive transferable skills like time management, report writing, presentation skills and IT skills.

WHY STUDY BTEC SPORT AT CWLC?

Our specialist teachers have extensive experience in delivering vocational courses, with first-hand experience of working within industry. Our student-centred approach allows learners to experience different delivery methods ranging from lectures, flip learning, class discussions, practical sessions, report writing and 1:1 professional mentoring. Learners can expect to complete both their external examination units in year 12, with coursework themed units the focus for year 13. We work closely with those within the sports industry, and they offer mock experiences for our learners to prepare them for future employment and further education.

WHAT COULD YOU DO NEXT?

Many of our students choose to pursue degree courses on the completion of this course. A high proportion remains within the disciplines of sport, completing degrees in sports coaching, sport science, physiotherapy, sports journalism, physical education, and sport studies. Other successful pathways our learners have explored are paramedic science, paediatric nursing, police apprenticeship degrees, midwifery, armed forces, and business management to name but a few.
