LUCY CALLAGHAN | SIXTH FORM STUDENT
I chose Business because I felt it would benefit me no matter what career I go into in the future and so allows me to keep my options open. I have especially enjoyed the psychological aspects such as learning the theories and practical application of employee motivation. Studying business has helped me to improve upon my analytical skills as well as my communication skills when forming a balanced and logical argument. Next year I hope to study Psychology at university; I am confident that business has enabled me to improve my essay writing which will be useful when working towards my degree.
WHY CHOOSE A-LEVEL BUSINESS STUDIES?
Studying Business develops key attributes sought by employers such as critical thinking, analytical skills, problem solving, and the ability to research and interpret business data. Students with this knowledge and skill set can be highly employable in areas such as advertising, banking, finance, personnel management and logistics, in both public and private sectors – indeed it is difficult to name a career where a knowledge of business practices would not be of use. Business Studies provides an excellent understanding of basic economic principles, how markets are affected by world events, and how businesses of all sizes are managed in order to operate as productively and profitably as possible.
WHY STUDY A-LEVEL BUSINESS STUDIES AT CWLC?
Our ethos as a department is to engage our students in their studies through a constant referral to, and use of, current business-related news stories and developments, in order to bring real life and subject content together. Subject theory is applied to current business scenarios allowing students to apply their knowledge to specific businesses and their corporate aims whilst honing their analytical and evaluative skills. We benefit from smaller class sizes allowing everyone to participate fully in discussions, and to have a more personalised educational experience.
We are based in a dedicated Business computer suite, enabling students to access the latest information on the business environment; guest speakers from various businesses and organisations are invited to present and answer questions on their roles, and we hope to visit various businesses where possible.
WHAT COULD YOU DO NEXT?
Business and related subjects, economics, finance, accounting, marketing and management, are some of the most popular and widely studied subjects at universities worldwide. Business graduates are in high demand worldwide as business affects every aspect of society, and therefore careers requiring a business degree are often highly paid and provide opportunities to work all over the world. There are also many apprenticeships available in various business functions, such as marketing, finance, sales, and management consulting with blue-chip companies and public sector organisations.
