CHRISTOPHER WHITEHEAD
LANGUAGE COLLEGE AND SIXTH FORM
WELCOME TO CWLC SIXTH FORM!
KARINA LACATUS | SIXTH FORM STUDENT
Studying Spanish opens a wide range of possibilities in the future. The thing that I enjoy most about Spanish is its culture: dances, food and music and also its history because I believe it’s quite captivating to learn about. Learning Spanish at A-level has given me the ability to critically look at both sides of the story because there are many different viewpoints which is a transferrable skill, and it also made me improve on my communication skills. Next year I hope to utilise my foreign language advantage and take a gap year in order to travel
In the sixth form I have always been supported in my work by my teachers. All the language department teachers care about their students and they try their best to make sure we understand things and not be left behind. The social aspects of the sixth form like enrichment and tutor groups has been an amazing experience so far because you meet new people to make friends and socialise with and the sixth form community is really welcoming and eager to make you feel like home.
WHY CHOOSE A-LEVEL SPANISH?
There are so many reasons for studying a language. You will be learning a life skill, you will have a greater understanding of the world, your understanding of your own language will increase, you will become more open-minded and adaptable, and your self-confidence will grow. Being able to speak Spanish not only enables you to communicate with over 300 million people around the world, but it also brings other academic benefits too. It is possible to study it alongside any other subject and by studying Spanish you will develop important listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Spanish is also becoming increasingly important in commerce because of Spain’s links to South American countries and because of the growing Hispanic population in the USA. Language skills are an advantage in potential employers’ eyes and on average graduates with a good knowledge of a language will earn significantly more than monolingual ones. Furthermore, Spanish is spoken in many of the top tourist destinations in the world, so its use is not purely academic!
