CHRISTOPHER WHITEHEAD

LANGUAGE COLLEGE AND SIXTH FORM

PSHE

The PSHE Programme

The PSHE programme at Christopher Whitehead Language College is a dedicated and bespoke lesson taken by all students for 2 hours per fortnight. The subject encompasses both statutory and non-statutory elements of citizenship, age-appropriate PHSE (Personal, Health and Sexual Education), politics and society. We feel that this part of the school curriculum is crucial in today’s society and we seek to build on our experience in supportive relationships, outstanding pastoral support and the highest standards in teaching.

The department is made up of an excellent team of teachers with a huge range of experience between them and a vast amount of enthusiasm and expertise. We have a shared vision and a mandate to provide tailored support for the needs of CWLC students whilst also addressing local, national and international changes in the world that our students need to be aware of in order to be citizens now and in the future.

We work with outside agencies including the police, NHS, mental health organisations and a wide range of charities to make our V&E provision as up-to-date and relevant as possible. Students are regularly asked for feedback on their V&E lessons; they tell us they highly value and rate their V&E lessons; they help shape its content and relevance.

The overviews and lessons detailed below respond to the crucial need for up-to-date, relevant and comprehensive information about sex and relationships, health, community and our students’ place in the world.

Our whole-school theme for the term is COMMUNITY.
